DotProject (Public Info)
The link below will take you to the members-only page where you watch free demo videos and learn about DotProject, a web-basedOpen Source Project Management tool.

The software is free to anyone who would like to download it. Day to day support is provided free by volunteers. DotProject, of course, runs on the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP). Although I have been using for my own company about a year, the consulting company I work for needed a quick solution, and we uploaded it and had it up and running in under an hour. It was a great alternative to Microsoft Office, which would have taken a week or two to get the licenses and the Server set up to allow multiple people to update their tasks from a common website.

In DotProject, you set up a company first, then probably add your users (employees/consultants second), then you add projects to the company, then you add tasks to the project. Each task can be assigned to one or more employee/consultants. You estimate the hours of each task and/or the duration. There are several ways to view the project status. Just click the project, and optionally cllick the GANT tab to see a nice GANT chart.

If you are not yet a member of this site, click the big "Free Access" button to the right. You must be a member to view the videos in the link below.
